Purpose

Public technical tool for checking visitor IP version and public website IPv4/IPv6 reachability.

Privacy

The service is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany.

The service processes the visitor IP address to display the current connection. Submitted target domains or standard http/https URLs are normalized and processed to run DNS, TCP, TLS, and first-byte checks. Private and local addresses are blocked. Check results may be cached briefly in memory.

Checked target sites receive HTTP GET probe requests from the service infrastructure, including the target host, User-Agent ip-check/0.1, Accept header, timestamp, and service IP address.

To limit abuse, the service keeps per-path visitor IP rate-limit keys in memory for the configured rate-limit window. By default the window is 60 seconds, and expired keys are removed automatically.

Server logs may process IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referrer, user agent, and HTTP status for delivery, security, and troubleshooting. Legal basis: legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

The Details dialog and /details endpoint use a local DB-IP Lite database. No external details API receives the visitor IP address; responses are cached briefly in memory.

No analytics, tracking cookies, externally hosted fonts, social plugins, automated decision-making, or profiling are used.

Data sources and licenses

IP geolocation data comes from DB-IP Lite databases by DB-IP, available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. The databases are bundled locally and used only for lookup and output formatting.
